Bitcoin is trading around $77,327, reflecting a minimal increase of 0.1% on Sunday but a notable decline of over 3% for the week. Heightened expectations surrounding interest rate hikes continue to exert pressure on Bitcoin’s price, making dollar-denominated assets appear more appealing to investors.
According to insights from CryptoQuant, a leading on-chain analytics platform, Bitcoin’s recent rally of 24% over the last two weeks has hit a plateau. The cryptocurrency has been oscillating between $76,000 and $82,000, with no significant movement in either direction.
Julio Moreno, CryptoQuant’s head of research, identified a crucial resistance zone between $77,100 and $80,200. This zone has seen long-term holders offload as much as 539,000 BTC in a 30-day span, marking it as the heaviest supply area above current price levels.
For Bitcoin to signal a new bull market, it must clear the 365-day moving average at approximately $81,700. Historical data suggests that previous bull markets have initiated after price closes above this mark. A decisive break above this threshold could pave the way for a new upward trend.
Further resistance is anticipated at $83,600, as derived from CryptoQuant’s 3x Metcalfe band analysis, which gauges Bitcoin’s value based on network activity, including active addresses. The $88,700 level is also significant, representing the upper band of the trader realized price model, where profit-taking has historically occurred.
Crypto analyst Daan Crypto Trades expressed his outlook on social media, noting that Bitcoin is “still chopping around right at its major high timeframe resistance level.” He highlighted the importance of maintaining support in the $73,000–$74,000 range to sustain bullish sentiment over longer timeframes.
ETF Flows Shift to Outflows
In a significant development, spot Bitcoin ETFs experienced $463 million in net outflows from September 7 to September 11, ending a three-week streak of net inflows. This reversal adds to the cautious market sentiment as traders brace for the upcoming Federal Reserve’s FOMC meeting.
On the downside, Moreno identified support at $70,000, aligned with the 200-day moving average, while a deeper decline could find buyers in the $62,000 to $65,000 range, an area where long-term holders have amassed around 476,000 BTC this year.
Bitcoin’s Role in Portfolio Diversification
Bitcoin Suisse has made a compelling argument for BTC as a viable portfolio diversifier in its latest Crypto Wealth Management Report. With U.S. federal debt surpassing $40 trillion and hyperscalers projected to invest over $800 billion in AI this year, traditional stock-bond diversification is under scrutiny.
Their analysis indicates that a mere 1% allocation to Bitcoin from bonds can elevate annualized portfolio returns from 6.2% to 7.2%. A more aggressive 2.5% allocation can boost that figure to 8.6%. This highlights Bitcoin’s potential as a strategic asset in modern investment portfolios.
In summary, Moreno encapsulated the current market sentiment, stating, “Bitcoin simply needs to digest the overhead supply and break its valuation ceilings before a new leg up can develop.” As traders look toward the future, the next few weeks will be pivotal in determining Bitcoin’s trajectory.
