Michael Saylor Teases Further Bitcoin Acquisitions After Recent Purchase

In a recent social media post, Michael Saylor, Executive Chairman of Strategy (MSTR), hinted at the possibility of additional Bitcoin purchases after the company acquired 334 BTC for $28.7 million between September 28 and October 4. This latest acquisition brings the company’s total Bitcoin holdings to a staggering 848,000 BTC, valued at approximately $70.48 billion at current prices.

Saylor’s post on X, which read, “There’s always room for more orange,” has sparked speculation among investors regarding the company’s future Bitcoin buying strategy. Notably, this announcement comes as federal offices observe the Columbus Day holiday, delaying the official 8-K filing that would provide more insight into the transaction.

The chart shared by Saylor indicates that the average cost per coin for their Bitcoin holdings stands at about $75,441. The balance reflects the company’s disclosed holdings as of October 4, with the dollar value fluctuating in tandem with Bitcoin’s price movements.

    A Pattern of Sunday Hints

Saylor’s latest hint follows a familiar pattern. Just a week earlier, on October 4, he tweeted, “More orange than ever,” which coincided with the announcement of a 334 BTC purchase that increased their holdings from 847,666 BTC. Similarly, in September, he hinted at further acquisitions after the company disclosed purchases of 950 BTC and an additional 1,665 BTC.

The recent purchase, which cost $28.7 million including fees, had an average price of approximately $85,839 per coin, notably above the company’s average across all holdings. Funding for this acquisition came primarily from two sources: $15.7 million from MSTR stock sales and $13 million from the company’s cash reserves.

    Funding and Future Prospects

In addition to Bitcoin purchases, Strategy has been actively managing its preferred stock, repurchasing around 1.77 million STRC shares for $176.3 million during the same week as the Bitcoin acquisition. This move is seen by some analysts as a strategy to build cash reserves for future Bitcoin investments. Shanaka Anslem Perera, an independent analyst, pointed out that while Strategy raised $5.41 billion from new common stock in Q3, only 9.5% has been allocated for Bitcoin purchases.

Perera emphasizes that raising capital does not necessarily equate to immediate Bitcoin buying. He noted that retained cash could facilitate future acquisitions, especially as the company holds a substantial $4.88 billion reserve for preferred dividends and debt interest. Additionally, they have $833.4 million in cash for general corporate needs, which could be directed toward further Bitcoin investments.

As investors await the next 8-K filing, expected on Tuesday, the crypto community remains eager to see if Saylor’s latest hints will translate into increased Bitcoin holdings for Strategy. The ongoing narrative of Saylor’s bullish stance on Bitcoin continues to draw attention, shaping the future of corporate investment in the cryptocurrency space.
