Ethereum (ETH) demonstrated resilience on October 11, maintaining its position above the critical $2,500 support level amid a volatile cryptocurrency landscape. As Bitcoin surged toward $83,000, ETH traded near $2,500, while XRP hovered around $1.40.
Earlier in the month, ETH had touched highs above $2,700, but a wave of selling pressure saw it retract to a low of $2,405 before buyers stepped in to bolster the price. Fundstrat’s Tom Lee, known for his bullish outlooks, recently stated in an interview that he anticipates Ethereum could surpass $5,000 before the end of 2026, which would require an impressive gain of nearly 99.3% in just under three months.
Social media reactions have amplified Lee’s predictions, as influencers and analysts alike question whether ETH can achieve this ambitious target, which would also eclipse its all-time high of approximately $4,954 set in August 2025.
Market Dynamics and Influencing Factors
Lee attributed Ethereum’s long trading range as a fundamental base for a potential breakout. His analysis suggests that if Bitcoin reaches $100,000, ETH could follow suit, aiming for around $7,500. Several market dynamics could bolster this bullish sentiment, including renewed inflows into ETFs and corporate acquisitions of Ethereum.
Additionally, the upcoming Glamsterdam upgrade, slated for Q4 2026, is expected to enhance Ethereum’s network capabilities, further driving demand. Notably, over one-third of all ETH is currently staked, reducing the circulating supply available for trading and potentially creating upward pressure on prices.
Technical Analysis and Outlook
According to analyst Ali Charts, Ethereum appears to be forming an Adam and Eve bottoming pattern on the 10-minute chart. He highlighted the $2,520 mark as a crucial neckline, indicating that a sustained close above this level could pave the way for a surge towards $2,640, representing a gain of approximately 4.8% from the current levels.
Market commentator Petar Jovanović identified the $2,550 to $2,600 range as a key resistance zone. If ETH can reclaim this territory, it may open the door for a move toward the $2,650 to $2,700 range. However, mixed momentum readings suggest that while the MACD histogram has turned positive, signs of diminishing buying strength may indicate caution.
On October 6, U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs experienced significant outflows, totaling approximately $201.9 million, contrasting with Bitcoin ETFs that saw inflows of $118.8 million. In the wake of the recent selling pressure, around $165 million in leveraged ETH long positions were liquidated, adding to market volatility.
This week, the economic calendar includes key data releases such as ADP employment figures, consumer and producer inflation statistics, jobless claims, and remarks from the Federal Reserve, all of which could further influence market sentiment. As of the latest updates, ETH was trading near $2,741, positioning itself for potential movement in the coming days.
