In a notable move reflecting the evolving regulatory landscape, Bitget has implemented compliance restrictions on 16 crypto entities, coinciding with an expansion of its stock-linked investment products. This dual initiative aims to bolster regulatory alignment and widen investment options for users outside the U.S.
Beginning August 7, Bitget rolled out enhanced compliance measures in three phases. The initial wave included Aban Tether Exchange and Shelbit, both of which have been implicated in processing crypto transactions linked to sanctions evasion involving Iran.
The second phase, effective August 13, targeted A7 Africa, A7 Nigeria, and PilotFinance Ltd. The most extensive wave commenced on August 23, impacting well-known entities such as HTX and EXMO, alongside several others. These actions are directly associated with the European Union’s 21st Russia sanctions package, adopted in July 2026.
Bitget’s compliance measures mirror similar restrictions enacted by Binance, which announced identical actions just a day prior. Such synchronized responses suggest a unified approach to adhering to regulatory directives.
The exchange has cautioned users that transactions involving any of the designated entities may be subject to rejection, account reviews, or even termination. In a response to these restrictions, HTX’s Justin Sun stated that the sanctions primarily affect users in the UK and EU, arguing that HTX does not operate in those jurisdictions. However, UK regulators have affirmed that the sanctions apply to the HTX platform as it is owned by Huobi Global SA, indicating ongoing settlement discussions between HTX and regulatory bodies.
On a different front, Bitget has significantly expanded its Stock Dual Investment product as of August 14, increasing the number of linked tokens from six to over 21 in less than a month since its launch on July 25. This expansion includes high-profile assets such as Nvidia, Tesla, Apple, and Meta, along with various ETFs related to the semiconductor sector.
The Stock Dual Investment allows users to engage with these assets through two options: Buy Low and Sell High. The Buy Low option permits users to subscribe with USDT and receive a token if it reaches the target price at settlement. Conversely, the Sell High option enables users to stake a token to receive USDT if their price target is met.
Bitget has adjusted the settlement time for these products to 11:30 p.m. UTC+8, strategically timed to follow the opening of major U.S. stock exchanges.
Despite the extensive offerings, it is important to note that the Stock Dual Investment product is currently unavailable to U.S. residents. Bitget’s CEO, Gracy Chen, has indicated plans to pursue U.S. licenses for money transmission, derivatives, and broker-dealer activities, although no specific timeline has been established for this expansion.
As the cryptocurrency landscape continues to shift under regulatory scrutiny, Bitget’s recent moves illustrate a proactive approach to compliance while simultaneously expanding investment opportunities for its international user base.
