Tesla’s stock (TSLA) has surged by 12% in the past month, firmly positioning it ahead of major tech players like Nvidia and Alphabet. This uptick in stock performance comes as the company advances its Terafab chip project and gears up for the opening of its Semi factory in Nevada.
While Alphabet’s shares increased by 8% and Nvidia managed a modest 3% rise, Tesla’s gains stand out in a market that has seen fluctuations with other giants like Meta and Apple experiencing declines. Notably, Microsoft saw a remarkable 29% increase, and Amazon matched Tesla’s performance with a 12% rise.
Terafab Project Gains Traction
The Terafab initiative recently signed a tax-value limitation agreement with the Anderson-Shiro Consolidated Independent School District in Texas. This development was officially published by the state following the completion of the application process in June.
Tesla and SpaceX are set to kick off construction at the Grimes County site in December 2028, with an initial investment of approximately $16.8 billion projected to create at least 3,000 jobs. According to earlier filings, the project’s potential expansion could reach a staggering $119 billion. During the construction phase, eligible property will not hold taxable value for school maintenance taxes, and from 2029 through 2038, the valuation will be set at half of the market value.
The proposed 100-million-square-foot facility is designed for the manufacturing, packaging, and testing of advanced logic and memory chips. Tesla will lead the research and prototyping efforts, while SpaceX will handle high-volume production.
The advanced chips produced will be utilized in various applications, including Tesla’s Optimus robots, Cybercabs, SpaceX systems, and xAI data centers. Additionally, SpaceX has partnered with Intel, planning to incorporate Intel’s 14A chip technology. Goldman Sachs projects that global chip-equipment spending will rise significantly, from $150 billion in 2026 to $281 billion by 2028, driven by expanding capacity.
Upcoming Tesla Semi Factory Opening
Tesla is on track to launch its 1.7-million-square-foot Semi factory in Nevada on September 24. However, the company has indicated that the ramp-up to full production may be slow initially.
The factory is equipped with the capacity to produce up to 50,000 trucks annually. Recent orders include a 500-truck request from Einride, along with 370 units ordered by WattEV and 40 from Big F Transport. The Semi has also received 965 of the 1,067 applications submitted to California’s clean-truck incentive program.
Tesla’s pricing for the Semi starts at about $260,000 for the 325-mile version and around $290,000 for the 500-mile variant. The company’s Megacharger can reportedly restore 70% of the driving range in just 30 minutes.
Despite the impressive production capacity, publicly announced orders for the Semi currently total around 1,500 trucks, significantly lower than the factory’s potential output. Tesla is expected to unveil European specifications and rollout details during the IAA Transportation show in Germany in September 2026.
