The cryptocurrency landscape is witnessing a remarkable surge in US spot Bitcoin ETFs, which have recorded their best inflow performance of 2026. In the week ending Friday, September 5, these ETFs attracted a staggering $986.9 million, bringing the total inflows over the past three weeks to an impressive $3.8 billion.
This influx has positioned total net assets across all US spot Bitcoin ETFs at $101.3 billion, despite briefly touching $103.3 billion on Thursday. Cumulative net inflows have surged to $55.6 billion, highlighting a growing interest from investors in Bitcoin as a viable asset class.
Leading the charge in Friday’s inflows was BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), which alone accounted for $117.4 million—approximately 67% of the day’s total inflows. Fidelity’s Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC) also saw significant activity, adding $57.2 million to its assets.
Despite a dip that saw Bitcoin’s price briefly fall below $79,000, the leading cryptocurrency recovered to $79,716 at the time of reporting, reflecting a gain of about 2.6% over the past week. This price movement comes amid a notable divergence in ETF inflows: while Bitcoin ETFs saw a rise of roughly 7% week-over-week, inflows for US spot Ether ETFs plummeted by 74% to $218.4 million, and XRP ETFs saw a staggering 83% drop to just $19 million.
However, both Ether and XRP ETFs remain in positive territory for the year, with Ether ETFs accumulating about $863 million in year-to-date net inflows and XRP ETFs attracting around $515 million. In contrast, Bitcoin ETFs are still grappling with a year-to-date net flow deficit of approximately $1 billion, despite the recent turnaround.
As these financial developments unfold, a critical technical indicator is forming in Bitcoin’s price chart. As of September 1, the 50-day exponential moving average (EMA) for Bitcoin was positioned at $70,030, while the 200-day EMA stood at $72,323, indicating a gap of about 3.2%. This gap is projected to close soon, with a golden cross anticipated around September 11, should Bitcoin maintain its current price levels.
The concept of a golden cross is historically significant, often viewed as a bullish signal. Analysts from various crypto platforms have noted that this will be the first occurrence of such a crossover since November 2025. Previous instances of golden crosses have led to substantial price increases for Bitcoin, with gains averaging between 45% and 60% following past signals. However, it is essential to note that this is a lagging indicator and can sometimes reverse within weeks.
In an analysis shared on social media, a prominent crypto analyst remarked on the bullish implications of the impending golden cross, emphasizing its potential to significantly impact Bitcoin’s momentum. Historical data suggests that across 12 golden cross signals since 2012, Bitcoin has averaged a 24.9% gain over the following three months, although the outcomes have varied considerably.
As Bitcoin’s price hovers near $79,000, traders and investors alike are closely monitoring these developments, balancing optimism with the inherent volatility of the cryptocurrency market. With ETF inflows continuing to rise and a potential golden cross on the horizon, the coming weeks could prove pivotal for Bitcoin’s price trajectory and investor sentiment.
