X has taken a significant step in integrating trading capabilities within its platform by launching the Cashtag Partner Program in the United States. This initiative allows users to seamlessly transition from social media discussions to actual trading with just one tap.
The program has partnered with five major brokerage firms: Coinbase, Gemini, Kraken, Interactive Brokers, and Moomoo, catering to a diverse range of trading preferences from pure cryptocurrency exchanges to multi-asset brokerages.
How the Cashtag Program Operates
When a user taps on a supported cashtag, which represents various financial assets, they are immediately presented with financial data related to that asset. A new “Trade” button appears, enabling users to select their preferred brokerage and be redirected to complete their transaction on that platform.
It’s important to note that X does not execute trades itself. Instead, the platform acts as a conduit, connecting users to the participating brokerage of their choice. All aspects of account setup, identity verification, and trading conditions are managed by the individual brokerage, ensuring a secure and regulated trading environment.
Cashtags utilize a dollar sign preceding the asset symbol, such as $BTC for Bitcoin, a convention that has been popular among traders for organizing financial discussions and tracking market sentiment.
The participating brokerages encompass a variety of services: Coinbase, Gemini, and Kraken focus on cryptocurrency, while Interactive Brokers covers stocks, options, futures, and currencies. Moomoo, on the other hand, offers both stocks and cryptocurrencies through its regulated entities.
At this time, X has not disclosed a comprehensive list of supported tickers, as availability will depend on each brokerage’s product offerings and customer eligibility requirements.
Background on Smart Cashtags
The Cashtag Partner Program builds upon the smart cashtags that X introduced earlier in 2026 for users in the United States and Canada. This earlier update included live price charts and asset-specific posts associated with cashtag pages, enriching the user’s informational experience.
During that initial rollout, Canadian users were provided with trading links through Wealthsimple, while U.S. users did not have access to trading links at that time. The new program addresses this gap by introducing multiple brokerage partners, expanding the trading options available to U.S. users.
Brokerages like Kraken have recently broadened their product offerings, adding thousands of stocks for European customers in August and entering the U.S. stock trading market in 2025. Similarly, Coinbase has expanded its platform to include U.S. stocks and ETFs.
According to Mridul Singhai, X’s product engineering lead, this feature bridges the gap between viewing a ticker on the timeline and executing a trade for the underlying asset. Monique Pintarelli, head of global advertising at SpaceXAI, emphasized that the program enables users to transition from discovery to action without disrupting their engagement.
This launch is part of X’s larger strategy to evolve into an “Everything App” by offering a range of financial services. The introduction of X Money earlier this year, which supports peer-to-peer transfers, direct deposits, and a debit card, is a testament to this ambition.
X currently holds money-transmitter licenses in over 40 states across the U.S. and has collaborated with Visa to facilitate transfers between bank accounts and X Money wallets.
As of now, the Cashtag Partner Program is live in the United States, though X has not announced plans for expansion into other countries or the addition of more brokerage partners in the near future.
