Bitcoin is currently trading around $83,049 as of October 11, showing resilience above a crucial support level of $82,000. After a notable rally from the lows seen in August, Bitcoin is now navigating within a consolidation zone, which spans approximately $80,315 to $87,397. The price action saw BTC open near $82,911, reach a peak of $83,071, dip to a low of $82,714, and settle slightly higher.
The current price trajectory suggests that Bitcoin remains above a rising trendline established following its breakout in August. However, momentum appears to have softened after a significant rise from the mid-$60,000s to the $80,000 range. Analyst Daan Crypto Trades emphasized that Bitcoin is currently battling to maintain the $83K level, asserting that weekly closes above this mark would be advantageous for bullish sentiment in the short term. He also highlighted the daily 200-day moving average and 200-day exponential moving average, both of which are trending upwards at a rate of about $100 daily.
According to Daan Crypto Trades, it is common for prices to test these averages after a substantial breakout from a bear trend, as they typically provide initial support. He noted that the daily 200EMA could converge with the current price within two months, even if Bitcoin exhibits flat price action during that period. These averages had previously acted as resistance in May.
ETF Flows and Market Dynamics
ETF flows have emerged as a significant short-term driver for Bitcoin’s price movements. Recent data indicated that U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs experienced a net inflow of $21.1 million on October 9, a turnaround following two days of substantial outflows totaling $244.1 million and $484.9 million on the preceding days. BlackRock’s IBIT led the inflow on October 9, attracting $22.4 million, while Fidelity’s FBTC saw a minor outflow of $3.6 million. Cumulative net inflows across U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs now stand at approximately $57.2 billion.
The fluctuating ETF flows align with Bitcoin’s sideways price action in recent weeks. Earlier in the month, heightened ETF demand contributed to pushing Bitcoin prices toward the mid-$80,000s, and continued inflows could facilitate a retest of the upper range.
As markets gear up for the upcoming IMF-World Bank meetings in Bangkok, various macroeconomic concerns are at play, including high interest rates and rising tensions in the Middle East. Additionally, the impact of escalating Treasury yields and fluctuations in energy prices continues to weigh on risk assets.
Adding to the bullish sentiment, Citi raised its 12-month Bitcoin price target to $113,000 as of October 1, citing an increase in crypto activity and a supportive macroeconomic environment alongside an anticipated $5 billion in ETF inflows over the next year.
Technical Analysis
From a technical perspective, the relative strength index (RSI) currently reads at 52.06, indicating a neutral stance, while the MACD is positioned below its signal line, reflecting softer momentum. The immediate level to monitor is $80,315, which represents the lower boundary of the current trading range. A decisive drop below this level could trigger further bearish pressure, potentially sending Bitcoin toward the high-$70,000s. Conversely, a breakout above $87,397 may invite higher resistance levels into play.
Analyst BATMAN pointed out that there are over $35 million in sell walls situated between $85,000 and $89,000. He noted that bulls would need to absorb this supply to unlock the next upward movement, suggesting that the real battle for Bitcoin begins at the $85K level.
On October 9, as ETF inflows turned positive for the first time in three sessions, Bitcoin remains steadfast in its trading position near $83,000, setting the stage for potential upward momentum in the days to come.
