TL;DR: PancakeSwap’s proposed initiative, known as ‘The Flip’, aims to increase liquidity providers’ share of specific trading fees to 88% while decreasing daily CAKE emissions to 7,000.
PancakeSwap is currently inviting its community to weigh in on a pivotal decision regarding the allocation of value between liquidity providers and the continued issuance of new CAKE tokens. The voting process has commenced for ‘The Flip’, a proposal initially presented to the community earlier this month.
Under this proposal, liquidity providers participating in v3 and Infinity pools would see their share of swap fees rise to 88%, a significant increase from the approximately two-thirds share they currently receive across many pools. The remaining 12% of the fees would be allocated to the protocol’s treasury, while the existing fee structure for V2 pools would remain unchanged.
A notable aspect of the proposal involves a substantial reduction in daily CAKE emissions, which would drop from 22,500 to 7,000, representing a decrease of around 69%. The remaining tokens would be earmarked for PancakeSwap’s ecosystem growth fund, referred to as the Pantry.
Proponents of this approach argue that more generous compensation for liquidity providers could enhance trading depth and efficiency, while the reduced issuance of new tokens might mitigate dilution for existing holders. However, the trade-off lies in how the treasury will sustain development and incentivization over the long term. It is important to note that no changes will be enacted until the vote concludes and any necessary code adjustments are implemented. If approved, the rollout of the proposed changes is set to occur in phases starting in November, rather than making immediate alterations across all supported chains.
