Boeing’s Earnings Report: Expectations and Market Sentiment

Boeing (BA) stock is facing a challenging year, down approximately 17% year-to-date. As the aerospace manufacturer prepares to unveil its third-quarter results on October 27, investors are keenly anticipating the financial metrics that will indicate the company’s trajectory.

Analysts project a loss per share ranging from 21 to 26 cents, a significant improvement from the staggering $7.47 loss reported in the same quarter last year. Revenue is expected to see a modest rise of about 3%, reaching approximately $23.95 billion. Despite the ongoing struggles, there is a glimmer of optimism reflected in the projections.

The current market sentiment suggests that options traders are pricing in a potential 5% move following the earnings report, a slight increase from the 4% average observed over the last four earnings announcements. This heightened volatility reflects the cautious optimism surrounding Boeing’s upcoming results.

According to LSEG data, consensus estimates project a free cash flow of $330.5 million for the quarter, contributing to an anticipated total of $2.3 billion for the year. While analysts are forecasting a net loss of $153 million, it’s worth noting that this figure pales in comparison to the nearly $6 billion loss recorded in the previous year.

Moreover, the company’s net debt is expected to decrease to $25.4 billion, down from $30.4 billion a year ago—a positive sign for investors eager for a turnaround narrative.

Matt Akers, an analyst at BNP Paribas, emphasizes that investors are particularly focused on free cash flow and delivery numbers. The ongoing challenges posed by the 777-9 certification process and new defense production facilities continue to weigh on Boeing’s operations.

    Anticipated Wins Already Priced In

The third quarter has brought a series of positive developments for Boeing, including securing the U.S. Navy’s F/A-XX fighter contract and the certification of the last two 737 MAX variants, including the MAX 10. The company also achieved a record pace, delivering 363 737 MAX jets in the first nine months of 2026.

However, analysts believe that the market has largely priced in these achievements, resulting in limited upward movement for the stock. Production challenges remain a critical concern, as Boeing struggles to stabilize output at 47 737 jets per month—a target that has proven more elusive than anticipated. The 787 production line is also facing delays in ramping up from eight to ten jets per month.

In light of these factors, Bernstein analyst Douglas Harned has reduced his price target for Boeing from $298 to $278 while maintaining a Buy rating. Similarly, RBC analyst Kenneth Herbert has lowered his target from $265 to $235, also retaining a Buy rating, citing no expectations for an improved commercial delivery outlook.

As the market braces for the earnings report, Wall Street holds an overall positive sentiment towards Boeing, with 18 Buy ratings and one Hold rating. The average price target stands at $266.94, suggesting a potential upside of around 42% from the current trading price.

With the earnings announcement looming, investors are eager for insights on production updates, quality improvements, and guidance on free cash flow, as these factors will play a crucial role in shaping Boeing’s future in the competitive aerospace landscape.
